Montreal-based Idénergie created a hydrokinetic turbine to reduce the impact on aquatic animals and ecology. They chose Darrieus-type rotors that pose no threat to the marine habitat. The kinetic energy of the river current is converted into electricity by the river turbine. The river current causes the turbines to rotate, which powers the generator. The resulting energy is subsequently transformed into electricity by the built-in smart converter. An electric wire then transports this transformed energy to the batteries.
The river turbine from Idénergie can cover a home’s energy demands by generating up to 12 kWh per day at maximum capacity, depending on the available water velocity. Even at its lowest capacity, the gadget generates enough power to operate standard household items such as a fridge, TV, computers, and lighting.
